One of the greatest mythical stories of all time is that of King Arthur’s sword, Excalibur, which was said to possess mystical powers. Play’n GO brought this story to life with their first game, The Sword and the Grail, but this follow-up solely focuses on the powers that are thought to be wielded by Excalibur.
My review of The Sword and the Grail Excalibur highlights all the gaming facts and features. I look into the software, how the game is played, how it performs, what features are included, and what can be one. I also spent a day with King Arthur, asking him about his time with Excalibur and finding out why their relationship drifted apart.
If you would like to experience the game also, then you have instant access to the free-to-play demo that is embedded into the review. You can play this anytime you want, and you can use akfxoqsd.shop to help you find the best casino sites online offering The Sword and the Grail Excalibur as a real money slot machine.
This medieval slot sequel retains the first game’s 3-row and 5-reel slot layout and 20 paylines. The setting is different, going from the round table in the first game, to an open cathedral-like room or hall. Above the reels of the game, you will see a multiplier counter that goes from x2 to x100. This is known as the Sword Meter.
So, why the sequel? My honest answer is that I do not have a clue. This is possibly one of the most pointless games made. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few differences, but not enough to merit any excitement.
You don’t need to know anything about the first The Sword and the Grail game to get how this sequel works. Load the game from your online casino, deposit to play, and from the game’s control panel, set the value that you would like to bet per spin. The cost of play ranges from $0.10 to $100.
With your bet set, select the green spin button to begin playing or opt for the autoplay yellow button. For a win to land, you need 3 matching symbols to fall onto one of the 20 paylines in the game. The patterns of which are found within the game’s paytable.
With the Sword Meter, this triggers at random points in play. When a spin is in motion, Excalibur will be drawn from the stone to reach a multiplier value on the counter. Should any win form from the spin, the prize is multiplied by the value on the Sword Meter.
The Grail: This symbol and feature acts as a Wild Multiplier. It can drop in the base game and within the bonus round. There are four values to the multiplier, x2, x5, x10, and x100. Landing 3 or more will return a cash value as well.
Free Spins: For this bonus feature to unlock, you need 3 or more of the Scatter bonus symbol to land. Your reward is determined by the Round Table Wheel game that is played before the bonus round. The wheel will reward the number of free spins and the number of Scatter symbols. Every 5 Scatters that you collect will unlock a Multiplier value and reward 3 free spins.
Wandering Grail Wilds: During the free spins game, all Wild symbols act as sticky wilds. Meaning they remain in play throughout all your free spins. These Wilds will also move around the reels before your next spin settles.
The first game was a huge success for the developer Play’n GO. You had a great game maker and a great story behind it. But for me, any slot tackling this subject never makes them as grandiose as they should be. Anyway, if you hadn’t played either of these games and looked at them side by side, you wouldn’t find anything different. So, why the sequel? My honest answer is that I do not have a clue. This is possibly one of the most pointless games made. Don’t get me wrong, there are a few differences, but not enough to merit any excitement.
I loaded the game expecting to be blown away by new features. I set my bet to $2 per spin and played 50 autospins. The animation for this slot is crisper than the first, and the symbols are still animated when they form a win. The Sword Meter rarely comes into play to help you achieve a big win. 25 spins into the game, and I regret my decision to play. So far, all the wins but one have featured the lower-valued symbols, so I’m gaining nothing.
With my 43rd spin, I landed 3 Scatter bonus symbols, thus activating the bonus round and Round Table Wheel. The result of my spin won me 12 spins and 0 Scatters. The result of my free spins bonus round ended with a win of $110.80, which was aided by landing the x2 and x5 multipliers.
Well, the 50 spins ended with me being able to cash out winnings. It started terribly, but the bonus round really did pay off.
The max payout to be won from The Sword and the Grail Excalibur is 25,000 times your wager. If you bet at $100 per spin, that’s a jackpot of $2,500,000! The RTP is surprisingly average at 96.2%, but unsurprisingly, the volatility is programmed to the high setting.
Whilst the experience of this game was mixed, and in the end successful, I’d rather this odd series by Play’n GO end. This slot presented nothing entirely new, and it’s all been done before. It’s a shame, players out there may like this game more than me, but I expected something more.
Alternatives to this game that I recommend you play are:
Robin Hood’s Heros by Microgaming
Merlin and the Ice Queen Morgana by Play’n GO
Dark King: Forbidden Riches by NetEnt

Read Full BioThe Sword and the Grail Excalibur was developed by award-winning software company Play’n GO. Whilst this game wasn’t for me, as it is too similar to the first, I still think Play’n GO are among the top 5 game makers, so look out for these games by them. Moon Princess, Viking Runecraft, and Gigantoonz.

Yes. The Sword and the Grail Excalibur slot comes with a free spins bonus feature. You need to land 3+ scatter bonus symbols to unlock the round. Before you play, you will spin the Round Table Wheel to determine how many scatter swords you gain and the number of spins you will play.
The RTP is scored at 96.20%, which is surprisingly normal for a slot game that can potentially pay out $2,500,000! This RTP score is, however, just a theoretical payback score that is calculated on the number of spins played and the amount of money wagered. The reality is that winning is purely down to luck.
The Sword and the Grail Excalibur was released by Play’n GO on April 25, 2024. This was just one of many games launched around this time. Other slots I reviewed (with free-to-play demos included) that I recommend include Undefeated Xerxes and Moon Princess: Power of Love.
