Resorts World New York City Announces $5 Billion Revamp Proposal

The firm behind the 400-room Resorts World New York City has unveiled a $5 billion redevelopment plan that would look to transform the Queens-based facility into a fully-fledged Las Vegas-style resort casino destination.

The Genting Americas Incorporated subsidiary of Malaysian conglomerate Genting Group has operated the 736,000 sq ft Resorts World New York City since 2011, offering punters the chance to enjoy a selection of some 6,500 slots in addition to approximately 1,300 electronic table games.

The affiliate recently applied for one of New York’s coming trio of ‘downstate’ casino licenses to be given the right to add live dealer gaming including such popular pastimes as poker and blackjack, from as early as next year.

Impressive Idea

As it awaits a final licensing decision from the New York State Gaming Commission, Genting Americas Incorporated has unveiled a contingent scheme designed to transform the 64-acre Resorts World New York City ‘into a vibrant entertainment destination’ complete with a 7,000-seat arena, 1,600 extra hotel rooms, and an added 350,000 sq ft of conference and entertainment spaces.

The operator declared this plan could create as many as 5,000 new on-site jobs and position the New York facility’s casino floor ‘as among the largest globally’ via the addition of ‘an impressive’ 350,000 sq ft of legroom.

Civic Concentration

Robert DeSalvio from Genting Americas Incorporated stated the planned Resorts World New York City transformation would furthermore encompass the construction of a health center, a ten-acre park with walking trails, 3,000 housing units, and a sports academy honoring local two-time NBA Champion Kenny ‘The Jet’ Smith.

The executive went on to confirm the scheme is to additionally involve ‘transit enhancements for connectivity’ to Manhattan and John F. Kennedy International Airport to create ‘a round-the-clock neighborhood that enhances the community’.

“We are delighted to have been a part of the Queens neighborhood for more than ten years,” DeSalvio said. “Back when we first gathered here over twelve years ago to start construction on Resorts World New York City, our aspirations went beyond the plan and now those dreams are on the verge of coming true.”

Admired Alliance

Genting Americas Incorporated proclaimed its plan for Resorts World New York City, which is located next door to the 129-year-old Aqueduct Racetrack, was developed in partnership with Queens-raised rapper Nas and forms part of its work towards ‘solidifying its position as a leading contender in the race’ for one of the future ‘downstate’ casino licenses.

The operator asserted it is facing stiff competition from rival schemes situated throughout the metropolis’ five boroughs, including a nearby proposal being fronted by New York Mets owner Steve Cohen and five propositions for Manhattan.
