New Jersey Casinos Post Strong May Results

The nine resort casinos in Atlantic City and elsewhere in New Jersey had a successful May as their aggregated casino win increased by 10.2% month-on-month and 5.2% year-on-year to top $239.1 million.

Figures from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement show this result took the properties’ combined five-month casino win tally up by almost one percent year-on-year to just north of $1.11 billion.

Dominant Destinations

The 2,767-room Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa property from operator MGM Resorts International led the way as its casino win for May rose by 1.5% year-on-year to approximately $61.4 million. This was followed by a 28.6% improvement to about $49.9 million for the nearby Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City facility, while the 20-acre Ocean Casino Resort venue recorded a 7.5% boost to roughly $31.9 million.

For its part, the 2,364-room Tropicana Atlantic City enterprise from Caesars Entertainment Incorporated saw its casino win for May dip by some 7% year-on-year to slightly beyond $20 million, while the same operator’s Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City and Caesars Atlantic City venues chalked up similar declines to $18.2 million and $17.9 million, respectively.

However, the Resorts Casino Hotel facility from Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment posted May casino win of $13.6 million, which represented an upturn of 1.5% year-on-year, while the Golden Nugget Atlantic City property recorded an around 7% improvement to $13.5 million,

Nevertheless, the 1,214-room Bally’s Atlantic City facility was left bringing up the rear as its casino win for May plummeted by 5.8% year-on-year to a disappointing $12.4 million.

Online Optimism

These properties are additionally responsible for a raft of locally-licensed online casinos that saw their aggregated May net gaming revenues improve by 2.2% month-on-month and 18.7% year-on-year to $192.1 million. This impressive result took the various sites’ combined win for the initial five months of 2024 to $942.8 million, which is far above the $781.5 million they recorded for the analogous period last year.

At the head of this pack was Golden Nugget Atlantic City, as its online enterprise celebrated a boost in May net gaming revenues of almost 25% year-on-year to $54.2 million.

This was trailed by Resorts Casino Hotel with its various iGaming properties, which posted an 18% swell to $49.2 million while the skin from Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa experienced a slight decrease in win to $43.9 million.

Admirable Achievement

All of this helped to take aggregated May gaming revenues from all of the casinos, racetracks, sportsbooks and online enterprises in New Jersey to $510 million, which was 8.3% higher than the $470.9 million recorded for the same 31-day period last year.

For the five-month cycle, the picture was even rosier, as the eastern state’s finishing tally of $2.57 billion was 13.1% above the $2.27 billion announced at this same stage in 2023.
