Kansas Casinos Rack Up Impressive May Revenues

The four commercial casino destinations in the American state of Kansas had a very good May as their aggregated unaudited gaming revenues improved by more than 11% year-on-year to top $36.1 million.

Information from the Kansas Lottery Commission shows the combined May tally from the Boot Hill Casino, Kansas Star Casino, Hollywood Casino and Kansas Crossing Casino facilities was the second highest of 2024 and took the five-month reckoning up by almost 0.8% year-on-year to just north of $174.3 million.

Peak Performers

The regulator revealed Hollywood Casino was the Midwestern state’s most lucrative gambling-friendly property in May as its gaming revenues swelled by 16% year-on-year to approximately $14.4 million.

This enterprise run by Penn Entertainment Incorporated sits next to the 48,000-seat Kansas Speedway auto racing complex and has four restaurants in addition to a 100,000 sq ft casino featuring 1,500 slots and 35 gaming tables.

The 300-room Kansas Star Casino from operator Boyd Gaming Corporation was not far behind as its own May gaming revenues advanced by 10.2% year-on-year to slightly beyond $14 million.

The twelve-year-old facility situated just south of the city of Wichita has five restaurants as well as a 49,000 sq ft casino hosting around 1,400 slots alongside 40 gaming tables encompassing an eight-table poker lounge.

Steady Satisfaction

This success continued for Boot Hill Casino as its own gaming revenues for May increased by 4.6% year-on-year to some $4 million. Positioned outside the historic community of Dodge City, the 108-room development premiered in 2009 and has a 20,000 sq ft casino with about 600 slots and a dozen gaming table offering poker, blackjack, craps and roulette entertainment.

Finally, the smallest commercial gambling venue in ‘The Sunflower State’, the 123-room Kansas Crossing Casino, experienced a boost of 3.2% year-on-year in its own May gaming revenues to $3.5 million. Operated by local concern JNB Gaming, this property only debuted in 2017 and features a restaurant, a 2,000-seat outdoor events center and a 18,600 sq ft casino hosting 625 slots together with 16 gaming tables.

Bookmaker Boost

Kansas launched online and land-based sports betting from September of 2022 and the state’s ten-strong collection of providers saw their aggregated May handle progress by 43% year-on-year to $172.2 million. This tally represented a drop of 10.3% when compared with April’s finishing figure of about $192 million but nevertheless took the five-month figure up by 3.2% over 2023 to $887.8 million.

The Kansas Lottery Commission disclosed land-based sports betting had accounted for nearly $8.1 million of May’s total combined handle with $164 million being down to online wagering. The regulator stated this led to aggregated operator revenues for the 31-day month of more than $9.7 million with the state having collected $976,000 in associated taxes.
