Illinois Casino Revenues Jump Up 5.2% in September

This week, the Illinois Gaming Board published its casino revenue report for September 2024. During the month, the state’s 15 land-based casinos generated almost $139.0 million in adjusted gross receipts (AGR).

The casinos collected $132.1 million in revenue last September, a year-over-year increase of around 5%. However, month-on-month, AGR fell around 0.8%. In August, AGR reached over $140.0 million.

Electronic Gaming Devices (EGDs) made up approximately 77% or $107.0 million of the AGR total in September, while table games like blackjack, roulette, and poker contributed the remaining $31.9 million.

High AGR Casinos Power Year-on-Year Growth

Ten casinos saw AGR drop year-on-year in September 2024, but the state was carried by growth at some of its most prominent contributors to AGR. The top three most significant contributors to state-wide AGR in September 2024 all posted growth.

Rivers Casino in Des Plaines contributed the most to September’s AGR, collecting more than $41.5 million or around 30% of the overall total. In second place, Hard Rock Casino Rockford generated $13.7 million. Bally’s Chicago was the only other casino to collect an eight-digit revenue total, with $10.3 million monthly.

Unsurprisingly, the same three casinos were the only operators reporting admissions of over 100,000. Rivers Casino saw 257,408 admissions during the month, followed by Hard Rock Rockford’s 157,154 and Bally’s Chicago's 120,726.

September’s AGR resulted in over $43.8 million in tax allocations, up 7.9% from the $40.6 million contributed last September. Of the total, $34.8 million goes toward the state share, while the remaining $9.0 million is allocated to local governments.

Par-A-Dice Drop in Revenue Comes Amid Move Talks

Par-A-Dice Casino, based in East Peoria, posted a 4.5% decrease in AGR year-on-year, which will come as bad news for the East Peoria Mayor, John Kahl. He recently publicly expressed his disappointment about Boyd Gaming’s, the owner of Par-A-Dice, conversations with the City of Peoria and its Mayor Rita Ali about moving the casino across the river that splits East Peoria and Peoria.

The disappointing figures posted in September 2024 won’t help the case to keep the casino in its current location.
