Four Queens in downtown Las Vegas took to social media last week to announce a major renovation of its 300-room North Tower. The $24 million room upgrade is underway and should be ready for reservations in 2025.

While $24 million may not sound like much for a Las Vegas casino renovation, the simple math comes out to $80,000 per room.

Structural Overhaul

The planned renovations are more than just updating the furniture and throwing fresh paint on the walls. This is a full gutting of all rooms in the 18-story North Tower, with upgrades that will transform the rooms inside and out.

The bathrooms are being enlarged, with new shower systems replacing bathtubs, some of which looked like they may have been there since the hotel opened in 1966. (Customers wanting baths can still get tubs in the South Tower.)

All the rooms will get new carpeting, new furniture, refrigerators and “smart closets,” which do a lot to make smaller hotel rooms feel more spacious.

In addition to modernized decor, the rooms will get improvements to its underlying structural framework – from new windows to new plumbing and a completely reinstalled HVAC system.

The new windows will feature a new “sound-dampening” system. Soundproofing windows could have a dramatic effect on the customer experience, with some rooms directly overlooking the Fremont Street Experience, where bands perform throughout most nights on the 3rd Street stage.

The North Tower, seen here, was the Four Queens’ original tower – eight stories tall with 115 rooms when it opened. The casino added 10 stories and 210 rooms on top of it in 1969.

The 400-room South Tower at Four Queens will remain open during the renovation. There are no plans for any upgrade to this tower, which opened in 1981 and got its last refresh in 2007.

Gambling at Four Queens

Downtown casinos are often seen as the last bastion of fair gambling rules and good odds in Las Vegas. The gaming floor at Four Queens is a mixed bag.

There are blackjack games that pay both 6:5 and 3:2. (The 3:2 blackjack has a lower house edge and should be better for players over time.) And the Four Queens has video poker that returns over 100% for “perfect” play. The best bartop machines return 99.11%,  which is better than most Las Vegas casinos.

Four Queens All Access Players Club has excellent promotions throughout the year. Players can use Comp Dollars both at Four Queens and at Binion’s Gambling Hall, on the other side of Fremont Street.

Four Queens is one of the few Las Vegas hotels that does not charge a resort fee.
