Well, it has taken about 20 million versions of the Big Bass slot games to finally jump out of the water and entertain us all in a very new way, but has it succeeded? In this review, I analyze and play Big Bass Day at the Races by Pragmatic Play.
Now, if you have no idea or understanding about the Big Bass slot series, then here is a quick history lesson. Pragmatic Play has made so many sequels to the original Big Bass Bonanza game, which dropped in 2020, that I’ve lost count. Have they milked the game too much? Well, I certainly think so, and one look at Big Bass Day at the Races provides all justification for my statement.
My Big Bass Day at the Races review covers all the gamification details, looking at in-play features, bonuses, and how-to-play advice. I also shared software details and programming with you. Ultimately, I will pass down my verdict on why Pragmatic Play has to stop making more of these Big Bass games.
Usually, the Big Bass slot games take place on the open sea, with the theme of trying to catch fish. Now, with Big Bass Day at the Races, the rules on the norm go out of the window. Big Bass Day at the Races is exactly that: a horse racing-themed slot game.
The setting of Big Bass Day at the Races takes place at a racecourse and comes with a slot layout of three rows and five reels. The game carries ten paylines, and if you have played any other Big Bass game in the series, you will notice many similarities, like some of the symbols carrying cash values, known as Money symbols.
The symbols used in this game include a champagne bottle, a picnic basket, a pint of beer, and binoculars. The actual design of these high-valued symbols is awful, and they look incomplete. Making up the lower-valued symbols, you have the classic 10, J, Q, K, and A.
I wasn’t too fussed about the game, and I think Pragmatic Play is flogging a dead horse now.
If you have played other games in this series, you will know how Big Bass Day at the Races works. Frankly, this slot is no different from the other games; it just comes packaged in a new design.
When you load the game, the first act is to set the bet value per spin. The default comes at $2.00 per spin, but prices start at $0.10 and rise to a max bet of $250 ($375 with Ante Bet). When you have set the price amount, you can begin the game by pressing the spin button, which, in turn, rotates the reels. In the control panel, you can also access the autoplay option, as well as the information button, which will reveal the ten payline patterns and details about the values of the gaming symbols.
Paylines are what produce wins. For this game, you must match three or more symbols across one of the paylines to constitute a win, except for the champagne symbol, which needs to be matched two or more times.
Other symbols in the game include the Man Wild symbol and the Scatter symbol. These invoke gaming features and can help to produce further wins. The game, like all Big Bass games, comes with Money Symbols. These values range from 0.2x your wagering amount to a colossal 1,000x the amount. These values can be collected during the base game and the free spins bonus round. The money will be collected when any money symbol lands with a Wild Man symbol. But that is not all, as there is a chance that the collection of money symbols comes with multipliers added to the value. This can be from 1x to 50x the amount.
Big Bass Day at the Races comes with a bonus round that is triggered by landing 3+ scatter symbols. When this happens, you will be gifted ten free spins. At the start of the free spins round, there is a pick-me game to play. There are 14 horse names, and when picking a horse at random, you will either reveal a free spin feature, a +1 money symbol, a +1 Wild Man, or a Remove Lowest Horse feature.
There are up to 10 rewarded features called catches, but the picking stops when you land the “and they’re off.” The more catches you make, the greater the returns because you’ve increased the opportunities.
The +1 money symbol will move around the grid throughout all spins to help boost wins. The Wild Man helps to collect the money symbols, and the free spins prolong the opportunity of winning. Removing the lowest horse means that only the higher-prized symbols are in play.
You can skip the base game and instantly play the bonus round via the Bonus Buy slots feature. It’s a pricey way to play, but it does come with risks.
While it is nice to see Pragmatic Play do something different with the Big Bass game, it really doesn’t offer any new dynamics of play. This is just a revamp with an alternative style over the same old Big Bass features.
I wasn’t too fussed about the game, and I think Pragmatic Play is flogging a dead horse now. They need to come up with new ideas, concepts, and ways to entertain. But this is just me, and I am sure that there are many players out there who will lap this game right up.
I played this game in its demo mode. Set at $2 per spin and playing 100 spins, I didn’t land any bonus feature and ended the game a little down on my balance. So, I tried the Bonus Buy feature. This is a very costly way of playing, but it might pay out big time. I spent $200 play coins on the free spins, and during the pick-me round, I got three horses with Remove Lowest Horse, +1 money symbol, and +1 Wild Man. After my ten free spins, I had won $66.80. so it is not a huge amount, considering it costs $200. So, there’s the risk.
Big Bass Day at the Races has an RTP of 96.07%. The ante bet increases your bet but increases the chance to land the bonus feature.
The game comes with a high volatility setting, which isn’t ideal if you are playing with a limited budget. This is high because the max payout is 10,000x bet. This means if you wager $375 per spin, you could win $3,750,000.
Big Bass Day at the Races is just like all the other Big Bass slot games made by Pragmatic Play. Personally, I am done with them; there are too many, and the series has lost all meaning. This game doesn’t offer anything new other than its new facelift on the design front.

Big Bass Day at the Races landed inside the best online casinos on March 7, 2024. This is just one of several games already released by Pragmatic Play this year. Not too long ago, they even released Big Bass Floats My Boat, which is a better game than Big Bass Day at the Races.
Big Bass Day at the Races does come with a free spins bonus game. You will initially be rewarded with ten free spins, but you can expand on this. Before the bonus round, a pick-me game can help you win more free spins and in-game features.
Big Bass Day at the Races has a buy free spins bonus feature. This Bonus Buy feature costs a lot as it is 100 times the value that you are betting per spin. So, a $2 bet equals a $200 bonus price. It’s risky, but it means you can skip past the base game.
