The Connecticut online casino figures for February dropped off from January, and the state’s sports betting numbers took a predictable decline as well.
Those numbers decreased from the January figures posted by the state.
February’s online casino handle was $743,894,957, down 4.6% from January, when $780 million was wagered. The online casino total taxable gaming revenue fell 9%, from January’s $18.8 million to $17.1 million. The state revenue share also fell 9% to $3.085 million in February; it was $3.39 million the previous month.
Handle for February was $493.6 million for the DraftKings online casino and $249.5 million with Mohegan Sun, according to the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.
Connecticut is one of a few states with real money online casino options, along with Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, New Jersey and Michigan.
Around the country, it’s normal for sports betting handle to decline in February because the Super Bowl is the only meaningful football game and March Madness is still around the corner.
Connecticut, which launched online sports betting and online casino late in 2021, was no different in this regard last month.
Total handle | Mobile handle | Revenue | |
---|---|---|---|
February | $115.620M | $108.771M | $3.647M |
January | $158.092M | $149.353M | $8.309M |
Change | Down 26.9% | Down 27.2% | Down 56.1% |
February’s total sports betting handle in the Nutmeg State was $115,619,953, down 26.9% from January’s $158,092,481. The mobile sports betting handle fell to $108.77 million after peaking in January at $149.35 million, a 27.2% drop. The retail handle also declined 21.6%, down to $6.85 million.
The total taxable gaming revenue was $3,647,385 in February; $3,306,309 of that came online. That was down 56.1% from January ($8,309,167) as bettors had a good month. Thus the state revenue share fell by the same percentage, from $1.14 million to $501,516.
The decline in monthly numbers for last month should not detract from the fact gaming options in Connecticut continue to grow.
Inspired Entertainment announced this month it was launching its online gaming options in the state via a deal with DraftKings Casino. The company’s foray into Connecticut means online slot games such as Big Spin Bonus and Gold Cash Free Spins are available for players in the state.
And FanDuel launched its new permanent sportsbook at the Mohegan Sun in February.
